Would You Like Some Fish Brain, Sir?

Some times ago my girlfriends and I went out for some seafood fiesta at Ever Fresh restaurant located in Pejompongan area. It was a great restaurant I must say, it’s one of my fave seafood restaurants in the city. We were directly seated on a long adjacent tables. At the same table, just few chairs down, sat an Indonesia woman with a bule guy. It seemed that they just arrived as well as I didn’t see any food ready in front of them. For some reasons, we decided to move to a different table.

When we already moved to our new table, I realized that I left my shopping bag at the previous table. So I went back to grab it. As I was about to walk back to our table, I saw the woman peeled off banana leaves that wrapped an otak-otak. The bule guy asked her what it was. And she answered:

“Fish brain. You want?”

I literally paused for a second and turned my head around. Luckily I managed to hold myself from bursting with laughter and just smiled while walking away.

I was wondering if she actually thought that otak-otak is made out of fish brain or was she just completely lost in translation?
